Coffin Club Brighton - Autumn Course

Informed Funeral Choices and Planning Your Own Funeral

This session is an in-person event, which follows on from our pre-recorded sessions on ‘facing death’ and ‘what to do when someone dies’, which will also be referred to during this session. You do not need to have watched the pre-recorded sessions in advance, but you will get access to them when booking.

  • Funeral choices: Cremation (including direct cremation), burial, atural burial and alternative and future options - what do they involve, what to consider.

  • Separating the funeral from the celebration of life.

  • Speaker: Community funeral expert on family-led funerals (funerals at home), Lyn Baylis, guides us through how to arrange a funeral with minimal support of a funeral director, including alternatives to coffins.

  • Funeral directors: their role, what they can do for you and how to get the most out of them.

  • Legal and financial considerations when someone dies and when arranging a funeral.

  • Out of the traditional funeral box: alternative venues, separating the funeral from the celebration of life, alternative celebrations of life.

  • The ceremony: its role, importance and how you can make it truly personalised.

  • Speakers: Humanist celebrant Gitte and independent celebrant Jess share examples of both simple, no-fuss and alternative, creative funeral ceremonies (all very personal and meaningful).

  • Making your funeral wish list.

Coffee provided, coffins are not
